Thank you Sainsburys for writing in your very small text that you included pork gelatine in the food I just ate - which sets off my RA.

Granted - I usually check with most foods - but this one sounded similar to something you'd taken off the shelves a few weeks ago and I thought that it was roughly the same thing only re-packaged.

Plus - you know - it was a small dessert. It didn't look like jelly (which I always check first) and all the others on that shelf are fine for me to eat.

...

Now I get four days of what could be excruciating pain. I can feel my fingers getting a bit dodgy already. I suspect that come 4 o'clock tomorrow morning I will be clutching helplessly at my painkillers.

I really really appreciate you putting ingredients that are toxic for me into foods that I don't suspect. That was just what I wanted before the weekend!

*turns sarcasm off*

Okay - I know I should have checked the ingredients - but I genuinely did think it was the same as the other thing - just new packaging. I'm not happy with myself at all! Or Sainsburys for that matter!

Being veggie it always amazes me the amount of times you find gelatine in the most unexpected places, yoghurts being the main culprit and yes they're always changing stuff to fool you. Luckily its only an ethical thing for me but I feel for you, hope you get over it soon.

*frowns* For some reason I thought I would be emailed when people responded! Apparently not. *pokes own email system*

Hi to:-

Rose-B - no - I wasn't happy! More frustrated at myself than anything else! Lesson learned there I think. I wasn't too bad - it was only a very small dessert so it must have been a tiny amount of pork in it overall. Still - my fingers felt like balloons! I wanted a pin to pop them.

Sara-R. Yoghurts?!? Scared Noooo! I *like* yoghurts. That's just mean. I used to be vegetarian - so I happily eat a lot of vegetarian food. Finding out about pork wasn't too bad until I realised just how badly it can affect me. Nasty nasty pork. ThumbDown

... One interesting thing overall though - on Saturday I saw a neighbour offering me a lift home whilst he waited for his wife to leave work. We chatted and I mentioned my hands and my condition... Turns out - his wife is currently being tested (literally waiting for the blood test results due back shortly) for RA - something she confirmed when she got in the car! I wouldn't have said anything if it wasn't for my hands being a bit dodgy - so I think a bit of pain and swelling was worth it after all.

Strange how things turn out sometimes isn't it?
